Who is the course for?
The perfect candidate for the Emotional Literacy Mentor course is someone warm, empathetic and passionate about supporting child mental well-being. You will need to be curious, enthusiastic and open to developing your knowledge and practice.
On completion of the 3-12 year old programme, you can continue to the 13-19 year programme. Please note, both courses can be bought as a bundle, or on completion of the 31-12 programme you can purchase the 13-19 course.
This course offers you both theory and practice and the suitable candidate will take time to embed and digest the contents to offer the best support to children. You do not need to have previous qualifications working with children, but you will need access to a group of 4 children for your final case study. The course is accredited and regulated, as well as insurable.
On completion, your course qualifies you to run small group programmes as an emotional literacy mentor. Please note, you are not a qualified coach at the end of this course, and it does not authorise you to be self-employed as a coach, for this status you will need to complete our Level 4 qualification.
Entry Requirements:
There are no entry requirements, but you will need to have access to 4 children aged 3-12 to complete your final assessment and practice hours.
Accreditation:
The course is accredited by the ACCPH (Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists) and allows you to register with them as a member on completion.
Insurance:
The course is eligible for insurance on completion with Holistic Insurance, this allows you to work privately.

Our Level 3 Emotional Literacy Mentor qualification is perfect for anyone who wants to run small group sessions to support child emotional literacy. Whether you are a childminder or nursery who would love to provide higher level emotional literacy guidance in your setting, a youth work setting passionate about increasing PHSE input, or a charity seeking to provide small group sessions as part of your offer, the course is versatile and supportive to children aged 3 to 12 years
The Level 3 provides you with a secure foundational understanding of children’s emotional literacy, and guides you to develop the skills to run small group mentoring sessions to support children to develop their emotional literacy skills, understanding and regulation.
The course compromises 7 modules. Each module is assessed through an individual assessment including essays, online multiple choice quizzes, the development of your own resources and session plans. You will complete a reflective log throughout your course and be required to complete 15 hours of practice as you work through the course modules. On completion you will submit a final case study with a recording of the session to support this (you will need access to a group of 4 children to complete this).
There is a requirement to attend one class session to complete your course and obtain your final qualification. Class dates are provided throughout the year in both face to face and online formats to suit those outside of possible travelling distance. You must attend one class to be signed off for your certification. Total study hours is estimated at 60-70 including your class session, optional Q&As, assessments and case study.
The Level 3 can also be used as an entry course to our Level 4 Child and Adolescent Mental Health Coach Qualification
On completion of the 3-12 year old course, you are eligible to continue to extend your qualification for 134-19 year olds.
Please note, you cannot do this course separately as the fundamentals taught in the 3-12 year programme allow you to support children who may have delays in their emotional literacy skills or who are in the midst of transitions. We teach the emotional literacy theory in the first course and it is not repeated in the 13-19 year course.
The Bolt On course covers an extension of emotional literacy skills, advancing to look at executive functioning skills, developing emotional maturity skills, exploring regulating and soothing big feelings, as well as navigating social challenges and learning to resolve conflict.
The course compromises of 5 modules, each assessed through individual assessments via multiple choice questionnaires.
You will complete a reflective log throughout your course and be required to complete 15 hours of practice as you work through the course modules. On completion you will submit a final case study with a recording of the session to support this (you will need access to a group of 4 children to complete this).
There is no online class component, but you have access to your course tutor throughout your studies. Total study hours is estimated at 50-60 including your class session, optional Q&As, assessments and case study.

Over 12 weeks, you will cover 7 modules. These can be completed in your own time, but must be completed in order.

7. Planning Group Curriculums and Session Plans (including a 6 week programme you can implement straight away)
Work is self-paced and each module contains its own assessment.
Over 7-10 weeks you will cover 5 modules. These can be completed in your own time, but must be completed in order.

3. Navigating friendships and conflict
4. Regulating Big Feelings and Executive Functioning Skills.
5. Emotional Literacy vs Emotional Maturity

Class Requirements:
On completion of your course modules you will be required to attend a class session to consolidate your learning and to complete your course requirements. Class sessions run from 930am-330pm and are held every 2-3 months on a Sunday. You will be provided with dates throughout the year to offer you options to attend. The Level 3 classes are offered online (via Zoom)to make them accessible.

Course Cost:
The Level 3 course costs £447.
This can be paid in full or via payment plan.
Payment plans calculate at a booking fee of £47 and three payments of £100 starting from when you enrol.

Following successful completion of your course, you are able to access group mentoring sessions to provide you with support, guidance and opportunity to explore and digest your own emotional needs. It is recommended that ELM’s attend mentoring each term to support their own continued development and ensure that their own needs are also being met.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience working with children? – No, you do not need experience, just an enthusiasm and passion for working with children and in interest in well-being.
When can I start? – On signing up you start immediately.
Does the course expire? – No, the course does not expire, if you need to take a break, this is fine.
How much work is it? – You are required to complete 7 modules. These are released weekly onto the platform. Each module will take you 2-5 hours depending on your learning speed.
When does my manual arrive? – Your manual is sent out within 2 weeks of your purchase. However, you can access all materials online immediately.
Do I get student support? – Yes, Louise, our Senior trainer will check in with you weekly, you also have access to our weekly LIVEs in the private Facebook group and contact via email.
How many children do I need for my case study? – You will need 4 children aged 3-12 years old for course 1, and 4 children aged 13-19 for course 2. The case study session is recorded as a group session for 30 minutes. Each parent will sign a consent form.
Do children’s faces show in the recording – No, you can record from behind the children to hide identities.
Does anyone else see the recordings? – Only our director, senior trainer and regulating bodies if they request a sample of work.
Can I work after? – Yes, on completion you can register and obtain insurance through Holistic Insurance to work. You will need to complete a Safeguarding qualification to work. This can be the Dandelion safeguarding course or similar from an organisation such as the NSPCC or local authority.
Can I progress to the Dandelion Level 4 afterwards? – Yes, the Level 3 ELM course allows entry to the Level 4. Priority is given to Level 3 students who wish to progress.
