Dandelion Training and Development’s accredited Senior Mental Health Lead training programme supports you to create and lead a holistic approach to mental health provision across your school.

We recognise that developing a comprehensive mental health strategy can be both exciting and challenging.

  • How do we implement change without causing rifts within our school team?
  • How do we gain buy in from all stakeholders, to create a successful mental health strategy?
  • How do we overcome resistance and challenges from stakeholders?
  • How do we uplevel mental health support, without increasing staff workload?
  • How do we gather constructive feedback from children, parents and families?
  • How do we balance validating child, family and staff needs, whilst implementing a strategy which integrates within your school’s ethos and curriculum?

We will work with you, using an accessible and blended approach to review organisational culture change, psychoeducation and leadership to support you to raise standards for your whole school’s mental health and well-being.

  • Our programme will support you to:
  • Complete a deep dive and audit of your current provisions and identify your core priorities
  • Develop your leadership skills so that you have a sound understanding of culture change and psychoeducation
  • Learn organisational and cultural change strategies to build a collaborative team approach within your school
  • Identify core challenges in your school environment and identify appropriate strategies, training, and interventions to execute real change for students and staff
  • Establish an action plan to approach mental health within your school
  • Strategically review your action plan, on a one-to-one basis with one of our coaches
  • Network with other Senior Mental Health Leads through our online forums and review calls.

Who is it for?

Senior Mental Health Leads at primary and secondary schools in England. You’ll need the support of your Senior Leadership Team to fulfill the programme’s requirements. If you:

  • hold a different role
  • are applying from an FE college or Special School
  • are based in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
 
Course Dates

The course is run at your own pace, and runs for a maximum of 5 months. SMHLs who would like to work at a faster rate will be supported.

Funding eligibility

The course cost is £997 (inclusive of VAT), there is a funding available for the course through DfE grants for eligible settings.

Settings aimed at – Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, Colleges (Sixth Form and Further Education), Middle deemed Primary, Middle deemed Secondary, Alternative Provision

Accreditation

The Diploma in Leading and Mentoring Mental Health in Schools is accredited by the ACCPH as meeting professional standards for training.

DfE Funding 

The DfE offers a funding grant (a maximum of £1200 per setting) for schools and colleges to train their Senior Mental Health Leads. This funding is currently available until the end of March 2024. There is intention to offer further funding to support all schools to train their SMHL by 2025. You are able to access details about your eligibility for funding on the DfE ‘Senior Mental Health Lead Training Grant Funding’ page (access here).  Our Dandelion Training course meets the DfE’s quality criteria for the provision of Senior Mental Health Lead Training, and as such we are listed on the funded providers list. You are able to apply to have the course fully funded within the DfE grant, and the remaining funding is permitted to be used by the setting towards resources and services as per the criteria list. 

Should you wish to book a place on the Dandelion Training, you will need to fulfil the following steps. 

  1. Review the funding criteria and terms and conditions for grant application here 
  2. Complete the grant finding application, using code SMHL139
  3. Complete an application form and submit to Dandelion Training to secure your course place
  4. Once your place is secured, please advise us who to invoice for your course 

Once you have received your enrolment letter you will be able to provide this to the DfE as proof of your course, alongside the course code to secure your application.

The DfE advises that your grant is reserved once you’ve successfully completed the first form confirming your eligibility. Funding is paid approximately every quarter (dates are available on the SMHL page)
