Dandelion Training is offering a range of bespoke online courses run privately for your organisation to support staff knowledge and understanding of children’s mental health needs and how to support them.

We currently have four specialist workshops available. Sessions are offered Monday to Wednesday between 10am-1pm or 2pm-5pm (evening courses can be organised by special arrangement).

All attendees receive a full set of training notes and a CPD certificate.

Maximum 15 candidates per session. £475 inclusive.

Understanding & Supporting Mental Health in Children and Adolescents
In this three hour course, we explore the concepts of child mental health and different aspects within this, including stress, anxiety and grief and their impact on children’s well-being. Together, we will cover:
  • An introduction to mental health
  • Myths and misconceptions in child mental health
  • Vulnerability and protective factors in mental health
  • Understanding the psychopathology of stress in children
  • Signs and indicators of different types of stress in children
  • Strategies and routines to support children to manage stress
  • Understanding the psychopathology of anxiety in children
  • Signs and indicators of different types of anxiety in children
  • Strategies and routines to support children to manage anxiety
  • Understanding the impact of grief on children
  • Supporting children to navigate grief and key considerations
  • Strategies and routines to support children to navigate grief
  • Therapeutic interventions

Understanding & Supporting Self-Harm in Children and Adolescents
In this three hour course, we explore the concepts of self harm and its role in and children’s mental health. Together, we will cover:
  • The nature of self harm
  • The differentiation between NSSI and Suicide
  • Types of self-harm
  • Causes and triggers of self-harm
  • Psychopathology of self-harm
  • Myths and misconceptions of self-harm
  • Consequences and complications of self-harm
  • Talking about self-harm
  • Validating feelings in NSSI
  • Strategies and alternatives to support young people who self-harm
  • Supporting young people to feel safe
  • Therapeutic interventions
  • Wider support strategies and organisations

Duration: 3 hours

Understanding & Supporting Attachments in Childhood
In this three hour course, we explore the concepts of attachments and the impact on children’s relationships and mental health. Together, we will cover:
  • The development of attachments in childhood
  • The types of attachments that affect children
  • The impact of parenting and connection on attachment formation
  • The role of trauma and abuse on attachment development
  • The differing symptoms and presentations of attachments
  • The role of attachment in mental health vulnerability
  • Internal presentations of attachments
  • External presentations of attachments
  • The impact of attachments in education settings
  • The impact of attachments in care settings
  • Supporting young people with attachment difficulties
  • Therapeutic interventions
  • Wider support

Understanding & Supporting School Avoidance in Children and Adolescents
In this three hour course, we explore the concepts of school avoidance and the impact on children’s mental health. Together, we will cover:
  • An introduction to the anxiety cycle
  • The nature of school refusal / avoidance
  • Contributing factors to school avoidance (at home)
  • Contributing factors to school avoidance (at school)
  • Presentation of school avoidance (early and escalating)
  • Myths and misconceptions of school avoidance
  • Consequences and complications of school avoidance
  • Talking about school avoidance
  • Validating feelings in school avoidance
  • Strategies to support children with school avoidance
  • Implementing school return care plans
  • A holistic approach to school return
